A new documentary film called ‘The Prince of Malabo’, which comes out soon, charts the story of Teodorin Obiang, the son of Teodoro Obiang, the president of Equatorial Guinea. Investigative journalist Tawanda Kanhema went to the capital Malabo in search of Teodorin for an interview. However, corruption charges against the so-called Prince of Malabo and the alleged torture of an Italian associate all got in the way of his exclusive story. Nevertheless, the documentary provides an in-depth look at a country which is known for its vast oil wealth, poverty of its citizens and lack of press freedom. RFI’s Daniel Finnan speaks to Tawanda Kanhema, the man behind the film ‘The Prince of Malabo’.
